Desexing

Desexing your pet is an important part of responsible pet ownership.

Desexing involves a surgical procedure and unless you are planning on breeding from your pet, we recommend performing this procedure at approximately 4-5 months of age.  At this age, the recovery from anaesthesia is fast.  Desexing procedures are performed at both the Eureka Veterinary Hospital and the Mt Clear Veterinary Clinic.

There are many benefits to having your pet desexed.  In the case of females, desexing prevents unwanted pregnancies, prevents unwanted advances from roaming male dogs, prevents extreme hormone-related behavioural changes, prevents false pregnancies and pyometra (a life threatening infection of the uterus) and greatly reduces the incidence of mammary cancer in dogs.   In the case of males, the benefits include reducing the risk of prostate related problems, eliminating the risk of testicular problems such as cancer and can help reduce extreme hormone-related behaviours such as roaming, aggression and territorial urine marking.

Desexing prices can vary between clinics.  We pride ourselves on providing exceptional service by experienced vets and nurses.  To ensure all anaesthetics at our clinic is safe and that your pets recovery from anaesthesia and surgery is smooth, included in the cost is:
